10 Easy Steps to Project Graduation Success

1. Ask for permission. Contact your college officials/administrators for permission to implement Project Graduation on your campus.

2. Enroll your chapter. Confirm your commitment by filling out the enrollment form at the Project Graduation web site

3. Get organized. Appoint a Project Graduation leader and begin recruiting volunteers and other campus organizations, faculty, and staff.

4. Develop a plan. Hold your first Project Graduation team meeting to create a detailed timeline and delegate projects and jobs such as: distributing posters; contacting the local media, campus newspaper and other publication, radio, and TV; inserting promotional material into graduation mailings and graduation packets; and contacting local service agencies that will receive the donations.

5. Coordinate with the graduation committee. Talk to your college administration/graduation committee about having Project Graduation flyers inserted into the mailings to graduating students.

6. Identify the donation recipients. Decide which service agencies in your community will receive the donations. You may need to contact more than one agency depending on their needs.

7. Designate drop-off sites. Plan strategic drop-off locations at the graduation ceremony in highly visible areas.

8. Contact the local media. Provide your local newspaper, television station(s) and the radio station(s) with a Project Graduation media release.

9. Conduct a final meeting. Hold one last meeting before the big day so that everyone knows his/her responsibilities. Possible jobs include: manning the donation boxes; taking photos of the event for publicity; taking donations to the receiving agencies; and talking to area reporters.

10. Report your results. As a part of your commitment to this project, please do not forget to fill out the Success Form telling us about the results of your Project Graduation event. This information is pertinent to the continued success of Project Graduation. Also, please send special photos and newspaper clippings to Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters, c/o Project Graduation, 1625 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211.
